Chiang Mai History
The Chiang Mai City Municipality fomerly was the Sanitary district or Sukapiban. It was elevated to become the Chiang Mai City Municipality due to the Municipal Act B.E. 2476 (1933) which was announced in the Government Gazette Book No.52 section 80 dated on March 29, B.E. 2478 (1935). The Chiang Mai City Municipality is the first Municipality in Thailand and the first Mayor was Mr. Worakorn Bucha.
The number of people was increased, the boundary of Chiang Mai City Municipality was expanded due to the Royal Decree which was announced in special Gazette Book Issue No.100 section 53 on April 5, B.E. 2526 (1983). The responsible area was expanded from 17.50 square kilometers to 40.216 square kilometers.
